Old Colstonians 67 – 3 Bristol Telephones

Old Colstonians made the trip across Bristol to Bristol Telephones on a muggy and overcast September afternoon. The OCs were understrength in the forwards due to a number of injuries and unavailabilities but this provided a chance for some of the peripheral members of the squad to show what they had to offer in the 1st XV.

Old Colstonians started in a workmanlike fashion but it took them a while to breakdown the abrasive and hardworking Telephones defence. This wasn’t helped by the late arrival of some of the away side’s players which meant they played the first 22 minutes with 14 players.

The OCs turned around at half time leading 27-0 but as the second half progressed and the home side tired, Colstonians really began to assert their authority and played some scintillating running rugby.

This was a good workout for all of those involved but the next challenge will provided by Old Richians in the first league game of the season. This will present a whole different challenge that the Bristol outfit must prepare hard for this week.

Competition for places is very tough in all positions and the OCs must continue to train diligently this week and ensure that they are ruthless in all areas of the field. After a number of difficulties this was a pleasing weekend.
