Old Colstonian 1s V Ross On Wye 1s
Ross on Wye arrived at BS16 on a glorious September afternoon and both sides could look forward to a tense and well contested Gloucester Premier League Match Up.The OCs started well and kept the ball in hand as they played into a stiff breeze, however everytime the home side made a half line break the disciplined Ross on Wye defence slammed the door tightly shut. the Ross half backs kicked intelligently and pinned the OCs back when they coughed up possession. After half an hour there was still no score but following some scintillating play from the Colston's midfield backs Tom Stillwell on home debut managed to crash over.
With the wind in the second half Old Colstonians attempted to take more of a territorial advantage but unfortunately failed to do so on a regular basis but based on the foundations of a rock solid defence the Bristol side never looked like conceding a try. Colston's scored another well worked try, finished off by the ever improving Mike Rodford. George Burrows added a smartly taken penalty to take the score to 13-0.
The OCs then defended for their lives for the last 10 minutes of the match and they should be proud of their efforts. Next week's fixture is a tough away trip to Tewkesbury that are always a tough proposition at home. The blue and golds must train hard this week and be ready for the challenge presented by the Gloucester outfit!
